For personal reasons I had to travel to Zala County of Hungary In May 2014.
I was searching for lodging on the internet when I came across Marton Vendégház in the village of Gelse and rented their smaller cottage for three days. 
I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised.
I am living in California for 50 years and traveled the world extensively, but the accommodations here could easily compete with the best vacation rentals anywhere if you are looking for a peaceful serene country setting. 
Spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable cottage with a living room/kitchen combination, large bathroom with shower, refrigerator and a comfortable double bed at half the price you would pay for a hotel room in the nearby town.
The village offers an excellent restaurant (it surprised me with the best meals I had in Hungary), general store and basic services but not much else.
It has a Spa with Jacuzzi, sauna and an Olympic size pool but it was closed when I was there. Nevertheless you can take long strolls in the vineyards covering the adjacent hills.
You are just a 10 minute ride from Nagykanizsa - if you have your own transportation (recommend) - but regular bus service takes you therein in about 30 minutes. 
Also, in less than an hour you can reach Lake Balaton or the resort town of Héviz. 
Should I ever go back to this area I would definitely stay at this place.
